HTC takes off the gloves, asks ITC for iPhone, iPad, iPod import ban

Two and a half months ago Apple shook the smartphone world by suing HTC for patent infringement and now the Taiwanese company has finally retaliated by filing a complaint against Apple with the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

According to HTC, Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPad infringe on a total of five of its patents and because of this it wants the ITC to issue a US import ban for the products.

“As the innovator of the original Windows Mobile PocketPC Phone Edition in 2002 and the first Android smartphone in 2008, HTC believes the industry should be driven by healthy competition and innovation that offer consumers the best, most accessible mobile experiences possible,” said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of North America, HTC Corporation. “We are taking this action against Apple to protect our intellectual property, our industry partners, and most importantly our customers that use HTC phones.”

Apple’s legal punch was through the ITC too so both companies are now even in their ban demands.
